ADHD and Menopause
Understanding the Hormonal Impact on Women's Mental Health
Service Description
Many women are only diagnosed with ADHD later in life—often during perimenopause or menopause—when hormonal changes bring long-standing but overlooked symptoms into sharp focus. As oestrogen levels fluctuate, the challenges of ADHD can become more pronounced, affecting mood, focus, and emotional regulation. This half-day session, led by clinical psychiatrist and ADHD Expert, Dr. Judith Mohring, explores the under-recognised but critical intersection between ADHD and menopause. Drawing on insights from her recent discussion with menopause expert Dr. Louise Newson, Dr. Mohring will guide participants through: - Why many women are late-diagnosed with ADHD—and how menopause brings symptoms to the surface - How hormonal changes during midlife affect ADHD and mental health - The biological links between oestrogen, dopamine, and cognitive function - Evidence-based treatments and strategies to improve mood, concentration, and energy This workshop is ideal for women navigating these dual challenges, as well as healthcare professionals seeking to support them more effectively.
