Masterclass: ADHD in Women
Understanding the Hormonal Impact on Women's Mental Health
This full-day masterclass explores the complex and often overlooked intersection between ADHD and women’s health across the entire female lifespan. Designed for clinicians and professionals with an interest in neurodevelopmental and women’s health, the course brings together leading experts to examine how ADHD interacts with hormonal, physiological and psychosocial factors from puberty through pregnancy, menopause and beyond.
While menopause is an important focus, this course goes well beyond midlife. It addresses how fluctuating sex hormones influence attention, emotional regulation, cognition and mental health at key life stages including menarche, the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, postpartum and perimenopause, alongside the implications for assessment, diagnosis and treatment.

What We'll Explore:
The day combines evidence-based teaching with real-world clinical insight, covering:
-
How ADHD presents differently in women and girls, including masking, late diagnosis and gendered diagnostic bias
-
The role of oestrogen and other hormones in brain function, neuroplasticity and mental health
-
Best-practice menopause management in women with ADHD, including HRT and lifestyle strategies
-
Contemporary approaches to ADHD treatment tailored to women and hormonal transitions
-
ADHD in pregnancy and breastfeeding, from a perinatal psychiatry perspective
-
Emerging areas including AuDHD, common co-occurring medical conditions and psychotherapeutic and lifestyle interventions for ADHD
A key feature of the masterclass is the inclusion of interactive breakout sessions, offering participants the opportunity to engage directly with expert faculty in small-group discussions. These sessions are designed to support reflective learning and allow clinicians to explore real-life cases and challenges from their own practice, share experiences and consider practical approaches within a supportive, expert-led environment.
The programme also includes a closing panel discussion addressing how services for women with ADHD can evolve to better meet clinical needs.
This masterclass is suitable for psychiatrists, GPs, psychologists, therapists, nurses, allied health professionals and others working in or interested in ADHD, mental health and women’s health. It will also appeal to professionals seeking a deeper, integrated understanding of how neurodiversity and female physiology intersect in clinical practice.
By the end of the day, participants will leave with practical, clinically relevant insights, increased confidence in diagnosing, managing and understanding ADHD across the lifespan in women and a stronger framework for supporting women with ADHD.
This session will count towards 6 CPD hours. Certificates of completion will be provided at the conclusion of the course, upon request.
Disclaimer: this course does not qualify you to diagnose and treat ADHD.
